Project Correlation Between Social Media Presentation

My topic is “what is the correlation between social media use and academic motivation among Master students in Australia?”

The presentation allows you to share critical points from your project and consolidate research evidence (background, literature, data, concepts or theories and gaps), analysis, conclusion, discussion, and/or recommendation.

The timing of your presentation needs to remain strictly within this time frame (5 – 7 minutes) to ensure all friends in your class can present on the same day.

In this presentation, you need to explain what they have achieved, produced, and implemented, including providing evidence of the execution method by applying a relevant theoretical framework and stakeholder consideration. Therefore, this presentation also allows you to practice professional communication skills to present clearly and confidently, share your project ideas and opportunities, and respond to challenges.

You can also include any appropriate resources (images or audiovisual) in the task, as long as they are relevant sources and be aware of the time constraint of your presentation.

Impact of social media platform utilization among undergraduate and postgraduate on their
academic performance
Topic Area
Relationship between social media utilization and academic performance. The use of social
media platforms among undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Introduction
Social media has become a famous communication tool at organizational and individual
levels. It has streamlined the communication between individuals in different countries, an
impossible activity some decades ago. Social networks are currently used in official settings to
convey an important message about the government or organization. This technology has
become a major issue in the present error because social networks are becoming more popular
and updated among postgraduate and undergraduate students in different countries (Westreich et
al., 2019). The issue has been whether is a correlation between the academic performance of
postgraduate and undergraduate students with their use of social media. The study of social
media in academic settings is important because it will help devise recommendations on how the
students can reduce their use of social networks during class hours to improve their performance.

Research question

What are the impacts of using social media platforms on the students? Is there a
relationship between the use of these social networks and the students’ academic
performance?

Does the discipline of the learners deteriorate as they continue signing into more social
media platforms? Or does the discipline depend on personalities and personal values?

Do the students use most of their free time to interact with their peers and engage in other
social activities on social networks instead of studying?

Are students with good performance records despite their use of different social
networks?
Study Objectives

To assess the impact of utilization of social media platforms among postgraduate and
undergraduate students on their academic performance. By conducting this study, I will
be able to determine the correlations between academic performance and the use of social
media.
Genre
The genre of this study is a research essay, and it focuses on analyzing information from the
past literature related to the effect of using social media on the academic performance of
postgraduates and undergraduates (Slesinger, 2022). After analyzing the past studies on the
topic, it will be possible to take a side based on the findings. Furthermore, some
recommendations from the topic will be made to address the current research problem in the
education sector.
4
Method or Methods and Justification
The study method chosen is the quantitative method. The nature of my research question
is the cause and effect; in this case, an experiment will be conducted to establish the relationship
between the use of social media and academic performance (Bloomfield & Fisher, 2019). The
data gathered for this research will form the foundation on which to develop more ideas and
conduct more research. The study method will include 200 hundred participants; 100 participants
will be undergraduates, whereas 100 will be postgraduates. These participants will be selected
from the departments of distance learning. In this department, most students use social media to
communicate with tutors, instructors, and peers. The independent variable of this study is the
different social media platforms such as YouTube, WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram. The
dependent variable is the performance of both undergraduate and postgraduate students. The
questionnaire is the tool that will be used to collect data in this study. They will be administered
to the study population through online means such as Google Forms. This is a handy tool for data
collection because of its convenience for the study participants. The reason the quantitative
approach was chosen is to allow the attainment of understanding and knowledge of the social
world. It will help observe events and situations surrounding the use of social media and how it
affects the learners population (Botes et al., 2019). The information obtained from this study will
be objective data, which I will communicate through numbers and statistics. The other
justification for the quantitative approach is that it will help create a general understanding of
phenomena and behavior across the chosen population and settings. This method is often
relatable, scientific, focused, and fast. The efficiency and speed of the quantitative method make
it suitable for this study because the time allocated to it is relatively short. This is possible
5
because the computing devices used makes it feasible to analyze and process data within a short
time, even when the sample size is large.
Significance
The previous studies have focused on assessing the impact of social media on high school
students and other demographics. Nevertheless, there are limited studies focusing on the impact
of social media on undergraduate and postgraduate populations (Zargar, 2018). The proposed
study is important because it will help analyze how social media has impacted the students’
performance in different parts of the world. The findings of this study will contribute to the body
of knowledge on the effect of social media on academics. It will form a foundation for future
studies which might focus on assessing the importance or effects of social media on social
institutions. Among the questions that need to be answered is the correlation between studying
and the use of social media; do students use most of their time interacting on social media
instead of studying? Is there a direct connection between social media use and learning? By
answering such a question, this study will debunk some of the myths surrounding advancements
in communication and the academic performance of college students (Hiranyachattada &
Kusirirat, 2020). Holistically, the findings of this study will shed light on the use of social media
as a tool for facilitating different learning activities; nevertheless, when it is left uncontrolled, it
results in severe consequences. This is important because understanding the effects would make
the learners understand the judicious methods of using social media to streamline learning
activities. The findings and knowledge from this research essay will be important in providing
some recommendations to the students to allow them to use social media as a productivity tool
rather than interacting with their peers for the whole day. Therefore, this study focuses on
6
assessing the impact of social networks on academic performance and identifying the
generalizability of the findings in different academic settings.
