For Part (b), do the following two parts:

Part (b.1): Use Excel to do the following: (i) estimate the unknown mean and standard

deviation of the viscosity, (ii) calculate the centerline and the upper and lower control limits

for each of the two charts and (iii) plot the control charts, including the control limits and

the observed values (of viscosity and moving range) for all relevant time periods. Submit

your Excel results.

Part (b.2): Use Minitab to do (i), (ii) and (iii) of Part (b). Submit your Minitab results.

Make sure that your Minitab results contain estimates of the mean and standard deviation,

by taking advantage of the Storage tab of “I-MR Options.”

For Part (c), do it with Excel first, and verify your answer with your Minitab’s results

already obtained in Part (b.2).

HW 3.2: Exercise 5.31 on page 227. Note that this problem calls for monitoring of process

and do not change the control limits calculated in Exercise 5.30. (All data corrected in this

“monitoring stage” can be viewed as “suspects” because the process is no longer carefully

watched over from all possible aspects (as in the “construction stage” of Exercise 5.30) but

is monitored only with control charts. Use Excel to solve this problem.
