Tiffin University Statistical Test Essay
Introduction
You have seen a lot of statistics and statistical techniques. This week, your problem of the week is to analyze another scholarly and quantitatively-based article of your choice to demonstrate your application of the concepts of the class so far. You can read research! If you choose, you can mimic the manner of the presentation given in the paper to your project presentation, due next week.
Activity Instructions
Describe the type of statistical test that was done and why that was the appropriate test for this study.
List and describe alpha for one statistical test in this study.
List the p-value.
Explain why/why not the p-value is statistically significant and how you know.
List five other statistical facts that we have studied this semester that are mentioned in the article. Explain what each of your selected facts mean within the context of this study.
Highlight the p-value and factoids in the article.
Upload the highlighted article with your analysis.

Prevalence and Problems of Military Veterans in the Arrestee Population. Justice Quarterly, 29(2), 258286
1. Describe the type of statistical test that was done and why that was the appropriate test
for this study.
A chi square test for independence and logistic regression test were both done. The fist was
appropriate as the categories listed on pages 273 and 275 are all nominal. However, the
authors also used a predictive model for qualitative model called logistic regression. Both tests
for both veterans and non-veterans were looking for statistical significance with many
independent variables.
2. List and describe alpha for one statistical test in this study. List the p-value, explain
why/why not it is statistically significant, and describe its meaning in the context of this
study.
α = .05 and p < .05 (the specific value is not provided, only that the probability is less than .05)
on all charted values on page 273 and 275
Alpha is the percent that we are willing to be wrong; since p is less than alpha, we will reject the
null hypothesis. Statistical significance exists in any result noted with an *, meaning that the
information can be extended to the population of veterans or non-veterans, as appropriately
measured and indicated in the charts on pages 273 and 275.
3. List 5 other statistical facts that we have studied this semester that are mentioned in
the article. Explain what each of your chosen facts mean within the context of this study.
a) n = 2102 - the sample size was 2102 arestees (p. 270)
b) p < .05- probability of a true null hypothesis is very unlikely (less than 5%) (p. 273)
c) systematic sampling- choosing every other person until the quote is met in each
prison (p. 266)
d) x bar= 41.7- the average age of arrested veterans was 41.7 (p. 270)
