UCI POL SCI 21a Polarization of The Parties Discussion

Pro:   The polarization of the two major parties in recent decades has been a positive development for American democracy given that voters are now being offered a much clearer choice.  For democracy to work, voters need to know what the differences are between the parties and policy differences are now clearer for all to see.

Con:   Polarization of the parties has been harmful to American democracy. The differences between the parties are now too great and have even resulted in some political violence.  Furthermore, there is too little possibility for sensible moderates in the electorate to be represented by our national political leaders.
