Film Analysis Essay AssignmentSOSC 1000 and SOSC 1009
Worth 20% of your overall grade
This assignment is due on March 24th by 14:59pm. Please submit your assignment on
the Turnitin link on eClass. Your essay should draw from as much of the course material as
possible, including lectures, films and readings. You also need to incorporate theoretical
concepts within your analysis. Please limit your sources to those we have used in class. You
are not to use quotes—instead, paraphrase ideas and use in-text citations (MLA Style).
Please make sure that your test is submitted as a word file, and that you use 12pt font,
normal margins, and that your writing is double spaced. The length of your essay should be
between 1700 and 2000 words. You do not need to include a bibliography or title page,
but make sure that your full name is on the first page.

You are to write your film analysis of one of the film listed below:
The Shock Doctrine (2011)
When you watch your chosen film, take notes and think about how the film relates
to and illustrates some of the concepts (minimum 4 concepts) and themes used in this
course. In your film analysis you need to analyse the ways the film addresses and/or
demonstrates these concepts. Make sure that you explain concepts in your own words
(paraphrase – no quotes) and make sure to cite in-text. Also, make sure that your essay is
not a summary of the film, but rather a critical analysis. You may include a brief summary
at the beginning of your essay, but it should not comprise more than 2 or 3 sentences.
